When I step into a library, I cannot understand why I ever step out of it.

INTRODUCTION

In my application to Southern Connecticut State University's MLS program, I wrote, "I approach my goals in life the way my small dogs approach a large bone: I have the will to succeed. I am an optimist. Knowledge is a meaty bone, and I am forever hungry."

This portfolio comprises the veritable smorgasbord of education upon which I have feasted: my projects, reports, thoughts and experiences as an MLS student and library denizen. The navigation bar on the left is a guide to the banquet hall.

In Course Work you will find descriptions of each class, along with work I completed during the course. Highlights encompasses favorite projects and anecdotes from the field. My Special Project - a report on the study of a public library - incorporates such diverse topics as community needs assessment, collection development, cataloging and processing, staffing and marketing library programs and services. I have also included my Résumé and a page dedicated to Resources – links to sites which continue to prove invaluable in everyday library operations.

I began this journey with a deep love of libraries but little working knowledge. With guidance from professors, and support from family and fellow students, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and resources, and I have achieved a greater appreciation for our magnificent profession. My goal for this portfolio is not only to demonstrate what I have accomplished, but also to share that knowledge, as others have so kindly shared theirs.

The journey continues...
